The Importance of Being Honest
Author: Yoli - Section: Mind & Body - Rating: G
"Wow, your mom really works for Hot Tunes China?! You were in three music videos?!" Okay, so Mitchie was not completely truthful in Camp Rock, was she? On television people usually get taught a lesson when they "bend the truth," and even though it may come across cheesy, the moral of the story is something to live by - honesty is the best policy.

I will not go over tons of different situations that may come up where someone would lie for a good reason, because that's not my point. What I want to get across is that in any everyday situation, it's in your best interest not even to lie about your natural hair color. What happens if someone finds out that you lied to them? They probably won't care if you are really a blonde, but they most likely will notice that you were not truthful.

After something like that, how are they supposed to trust that the homework assignment you told them they missed is real? or that their favorite dress really does look good on them? One little white lie could lead to forgetting what the word "truth" even means. It could get out of control and you may not even trust yourself!

I will just make this simple - do not lie, do not cheat, do not even tell someone your middle name doesn't sound like an old ladies' if they ask. Plenty of times you will just be able to laugh past the awkward situation and be happy that you told the truth afterwards. If you cannot laugh it off, maybe you should just explain to the person that you do not lie because you care about others and want to create a good self-image. If they are truly a friend, they will understand that you not just trying to be mean.

Telling the truth shows respect and makes you an overall better person. You will feel better inside and use that joy to make others feel better as well. So go ahead, let people know you care about them - tell them the truth! Even if they get upset at first, in the end they should appreciate that you cared enough to not let them walk out looking like a giant parrot. Okay, maybe not a parrot, but I think you get my point; being honest makes you a better person, helps you create stronger relationships, and lets everyone know how much you care about them not to lie.
